Careers Education is delivered through various means which include careers modules, CEIAG Days, Post 16 Lecture Time, subject-based careers lessons, and the program in Learning for Life and Work.
At each level students are encouraged to become self-aware and analyse their own strengths, skills, and qualities. They are also encouraged to explore their career ambitions by researching a variety of career and course options and gaining an insight into working and student life. These skills of Personal Career Planning help students to make successful key decisions within school and to approach their career paths with greater confidence.
The Career Zone provides a hub for Careers Information, Advice and Guidance. Information about careers and courses is available on an open access basis and the Careers Seminar Area hosts lunchtime talks, which can include subject specific seminars, talks from university admissions staff and presentations from representatives of professional organisations.
The Careers Adviser from the Department for the Economy is regularly available to students for consultation and they provide a Career Action Plan for students in Year 12.
For all Year 13 (and for those who plan to leave school after Year 12) there is an opportunity to learn more about the career of their choice through a work shadowing placement.
The school hosts a biennial Careers and Higher Education Exhibition which is open to all students.
Post -16 students are encouraged to attend workshops, conferences and open days relevant to their aspirations and are provided with the opportunity to take part in a ‘mock’ interview in preparation for their Post 18 pathway. Promotion of such opportunities is done mainly via the CEIAG Google Classroom and advertising in the Career Zone.
Individual Learning Guidance Interviews are organised for all students when important transition choices have to be made (Years 10-14). School careers staff offer a post-results advice service in August for Years 12-14. Individual students can seek guidance from Careers staff as they feel necessary.
